Who can buy a youth pass in Vienna?
Anyone under the age of 26 can purchase a Jahreskarte Jugend. Student status, place of residence, or employment do not matter for eligibility, so the youth fare is also available to young Ukrainians living in Vienna. The new format went into effect on February 1, 2026, replacing the two previous tickets for students and young people: the Semesterkarte and the Ferien-Monatskarte.

Price of the annual youth pass in Vienna
The minimum cost of a youth annual pass in Vienna is €294. That is the price of the digital card when paid in full upfront. The plastic version is more expensive, and monthly payments increase the total cost by €15 for both formats. Below is a complete list of prices depending on the format and payment method:
- digital pass, one-time payment: €294;
- digital pass, monthly payments: €309 total;
- plastic card, one-time payment: €300;
- plastic card, monthly payments: €315 total.
Where the Jahreskarte Jugend is valid: subway, trams, S-Bahn
The Jahreskarte Jugend is valid for 365 days starting on the first day of the selected month and covers Vienna’s main transportation zone. Cardholders can travel without restrictions on the subway, trams, city buses, and S-Bahn trains within the Vienna fare zone. The pass is also valid on the Badner Bahn line to the Vösendorf-Siebenhirten station. Certain special express bus routes are excluded.

Is the youth pass valid for travel to Vienna Airport?
No, the annual youth pass does not cover trips to Vienna Airport or back. The airport is located outside the main city fare zone, so the pass does not apply to this route. Restrictions also apply to several specific modes of transportation where the youth Jahreskarte is not valid:
- City Airport Train;
- Westbahn trains;
- certain tourist transportation services.

How do I get a Jugend Jahreskarte online or at a ticket office?
You can get the digital pass through the WienMobil mobile app. This is the cheapest way to get a youth Jahreskarte. You can order a plastic Jahreskarte Jugend online or purchase it at Wiener Linien sales points. To get the plastic version, you’ll need a valid ID and a recent photo when applying.

The youth fare saves you at least €167 per year compared to the standard digital Jahreskarte WIEN. The standard version of the pass costs significantly more in all formats and regardless of the payment method. Below are the current prices for the standard annual pass in Vienna:

- plastic pass, one-time payment: €467;
- digital card, monthly payment: €500.40;
- plastic card, monthly payment: €506.40.
