Radical Storage has released an updated ranking of the world’s cities with the best street food in 2026, after analyzing nearly 7,000 establishments across 100 tourist destinations. The study evaluated vendor density, food quality, culinary diversity, and affordability, and identified the undisputed leaders among European and Asian cities. Street food has become a tourist attraction in its own right, and its popularity among travelers is growing every year. According to researchers’ estimates, approximately 2.5 billion people around the world consume street food each year. Radical Storage previously wrote about the global street food scene—the team analyzed 6,897 establishments in the world’s 100 most-visited cities based on seven criteria and compiled an updated 2026 ranking.

Paris: A Global Leader in Street Food
The capital of France topped the ranking of the best cities for street food with a final score of 7.2 out of 10. Paris received high marks in several categories: the number of vendors (401), the variety of cuisines (37 different types), and the percentage of highly rated vendors—69.1% have a rating of four stars or higher.
Second place went to Athens with a score of 6.9 out of 10. The Greek capital stands out for its density of vendors—4.21 vendors per square kilometer—and 29 different culinary styles. Rounding out the top three is Thessaloniki with a score of 6.1 points, where 77.1% of establishments offer dishes at the most affordable prices.

Top 10 Cities in the World with the Best Street Food
Radical Storage’s overall ranking is based on seven criteria: vendor density per square kilometer, average ratings of establishments, the percentage of vendors rated 4 stars or higher, price range, culinary diversity, and the availability of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. The scores for all cities are adjusted for area, so compact destinations are evaluated on par with large metropolises.
The top ten look like this:

- Athens (Greece) — 6.9 points
- Thessaloniki (Greece) — 6.1 points
- Barcelona (Spain) — 5.9 points
- London (England) — 5.4 points
- Rhodes (Greece) — 5.0 points
- Rome (Italy) — 4.9 points
- Hanoi (Vietnam) — 4.5 points
- Budapest (Hungary) — 4.5 points
- Amsterdam (Netherlands) — 4.4 points
Greece is represented in the top 10 by three cities—Athens, Thessaloniki, and Rhodes—making it the undisputed leader in terms of representation in the ranking.
Where is the best street food: a ranking based on visitor ratings
In terms of the percentage of vendors rated 4 stars or higher, Rhodes took first place—83% of street food vendors there have high ratings. Florence came in second with 82.7%, and Edinburgh rounded out the top three with 81.3%. Italy and Greece occupy four of the top ten spots.
Rome’s result is particularly notable: the city has 222 street food vendors—one of the largest scenes among the destinations analyzed—and 74.8% of these vendors received high ratings. Palma de Mallorca (77.8%) and Heraklion (77.4%) made it into the top five, while Porto, Phuket, Berlin, and Lisbon round out the top ten.

Cities with the Most Diverse Selection of Cuisines
London topped the ranking for culinary diversity—the British capital offers 39 different types of street food. This variety reflects the city’s multicultural population: Indian curries, Caribbean jerk chicken, Lebanese lavash, and classic British fish and chips blend seamlessly here.
Paris ranks second with 37 types of cuisine, Barcelona third with 35, and Amsterdam fourth with 34. Madrid, Berlin, and Budapest offer between 30 and 31 different culinary styles, while Athens, Lisbon, and Rome round out the top ten with 28–29 varieties each.

Cities with the Cheapest Street Food
Greece also came out on top in terms of affordability—four Greek cities made it into the top 10. Athens topped the ranking: 81.5% of local vendors fall into the lowest price category. They are followed by Heraklion (81%), Kraków (78.6%), Thessaloniki (77.1%), and Marrakesh (76.2%).
Two Vietnamese cities—Hanoi (75.6%) and Ho Chi Minh City (73.4%)—are ranked right next to each other, confirming Vietnam’s reputation as one of the most affordable destinations for culinary travel. Rounding out the top ten are Rhodes (73.2%), Hong Kong (73.3%), and Taipei (72.7%).
Tokyo Leads in the Number of Street Food Vendors
Tokyo has the largest street food scene among the cities surveyed, with 414 vendors. The Japanese capital outpaces Paris (401) and London (300). Osaka showed the highest growth among all cities—the number of vendors there increased by 154.4% compared to 2023, from 79 to 201 establishments.
In Hanoi, the number of vendors rose by 42.3%, and in Ho Chi Minh City, by 62.6%, indicating the rapid expansion of street food in Southeast Asia. Melbourne, Los Angeles, and Cancún have the fewest street food vendors—30 each. Melbourne also saw the largest decline in its street food scene—a 37.5% drop compared to the previous 2023 study.

The Best Cities for Vegetarian and Vegan Street Food
Edinburgh topped the rankings for the share of vegetarian and vegan options: 52.1% of Scottish vendors offer plant-based dishes. Florence came in second with 46.2%, while Amsterdam took third place with 41.8%.
Rome rounds out the top four with 39.2%, while London stands out for its total number of plant-based options—99 vendors offering such dishes. Barcelona and Budapest also rank highly, indicating growing demand for vegetarian and vegan dishes in European street food.
